Animation Showing.

As you know, I have spent these past couple weeks furiously trying to finish my animation called "To Be Another" With some adjustments and alot of all nighters, my animation will be showing at the Michigan Theater at 5pm. Here is the YouTube video of my animation for the people who will be unable to come to showing today.

To Be Another Animation

-My story comes from an old historical masks call Tal' Chum masks. They were made in Korea during the 12th century and during the Koryo Dynasty. They were originally made in a town call Ha-hoe village, where legends say that they were created by a man who was ordered by the gods to make.

-These masks were used to create the first plays during those times. Being in a state of corruption rule and poor economy, these masks were often used to create plays with music about their life or about the society issues.

-The word Tal means to free oneself. and with this idea, they often played rolls of characters that they were not in society and relieved their stress through the play by playing fun at the government or making fun of a certain type of person.

12 masks in total

2 masks will be presented with a preview of the third.

this will be just the start of the animation style i would like to pursue.

My inspiration from another artist named Charles

http://choojr.blogspot.com/ - this is the artist that has inspired me to use these masks to portray a status in the crime world.

The aristocrat will portray the mafia boss.

The fool will portray as the street gangster trying to make a living.

Hope you enjoy it. it took me a full month of no sleep to finish this because I lost myself in the beginning of this semester and regained the confidence by the help of professors and gsi's who pushed me to really end strong.

Thank you.

E-03

Last week I went to John Hailing's Urban Timber to select wood for design 3 ( E-03).

I selected a walnut slab roughly 110" x 48" x 4".

Due to it's thickness, I wanted to cut the slab in half, in order to get two slabs around 1.5" thick.
John Hailing reducing the slab's width to 43" to fit through the horizontal saw.

Together we cut the slab in two.

Here are the results:

E-03 features concentric rings cut from one slab and 2 sheets of 1" acrylic. The rings layer up to create a table base with a subtle striped effect.

Here are some images form slab 1's cut:

During the cut we discovered a nail embedded in the wood, which broke part of a bit. In order to run the second slab on the router, I had to locate a metal detector to ensure there were no more nails like this one.

Finished rings

After locating a metal detector, pulling out the other half of the nail found in slab 1, and scheduling another router appointment, slab 2 was ready to go.

Slab 2 becomes the table top, aligning on top of the acrylic and wood rings to cap off the table. Since the table deals with very dense materials, I decided to remove excess material from the underside of the top. Here is what the underside looks like:

This is one of the acrylic rings

About the Fashion Show

This Sunday is the Shei Fest Fashion Show. Instead of having a runway show exhibiting 3 student designer collections, the Fashion Director of Shei decided to have our Collections exhibited on human mannequins instead. She said that she wants the show to be cohesive- showing all clothes in one run, which means we designers would not be distinguished amongst one another. Therefore, she asked me if I was interested in exhibiting my clothes on the human mannequins during the intro before the runway show and I agreed (this will highlight my work separately). The show is this SUNDAY! but I don't know the other logistics yet (time, entrance fee, etc). Grace Cassell (Fashion Director) and I will discuss that today and I will post an announcement on here separately.

Other updates about my progress include that I've had an editorial fashion shoot for each garment, which will be exhibited April 16th at the THR3E Exhibition and while I may have created 7 different looks, I will most likely only be exhibiting 6 of them in our Offsite Space. I believe these 6 looks make a more cohesive collection than the 7.

Here is a sneak preview of the Fashion Shoot.

Timeline/Training Log

It has been a long time since I last posted so here is an update on my progress thus far. The IP Show is about a week or so away and there is still a lot I need to do.

I am pretty much finished with the inside of the brochure. I have completed the race course timeline. It took me a lot longer to create this than I had originally imagined. I ended putting a lot more detail into each building/monument in order to create a more realistic look.

Now that I have finished illustrating every mile of the race, I can now look at it as a whole and decide if any changes need to be made before the exhibition. But, for now I need focus on the informational part of the brochure for the next couple of days. The next step is to finish the course map and hotel/restaurant map, followed by the first spread, finalizing the information, and cover/back designs.

I am still trying to figure out color in this piece. I know I want to use red and blue but I am not sure if these particular colors are working...

I recently had an idea of a take-away I could include in my final exhibition. I was thinking about creating another post card that had a little bit about the race on the back along with registration information. I would also include my contact information and website. I would create 26 different version of this post-card. Each one would have a different mile from the timeline. This way the illustrations would be bigger and more of the detail could be seen. This idea will have to be more of a last minute thing if I have some extra time before the show, but I think it would definitely is an interesting idea.

Design 2 (E-02)

This week I cut the components for Design 2, E-02. The process required 2 router appointments equaling 16 hours in total. Here are some in-process images...

.5" green edge acrylic

Olive burl cut prep - This particular job required a jig within a jig. The first jig allowed me to tell the machine exactly where the wood was located on the router bed while the second, inner jig, provided precision for flipping the piece.

Near the End

As of right now, I have a total of 5 pieces done. Just one more closer to my goal of 6. If I find time, I might attempt to do 1 more, total of 7. I've also been trying on my clothes on size 0-2 girls and they fit well. Aside from the collection, I'm also working on the graphic price tags for each piece and will shoot editorial photos of my work throughout this week with Shei (to be exhibited in April and used on my personal website). 3 different models will be featured, each wearing 2 of my pieces.

Other News: Shei Fest Fashion show will be held in the Michigan Ballroom.

Here are some photos of the work coming along.
