So I've been playing all day with the configurations this table can take. I think I've decided I am interested in making the table collapsable. There are a couple problems with this: 1) Two people will be needed to hang on the wall. 2) It will be somewhat heavy since it will be made of wood. 3) Getting items out of the table will still be an issue while the table is collapsed. I am pleased with the progress I made thus far though.
I still need to figure out a couple things that can be done over break:
1) How the table expands
2) The the table collapses
I have been researching tables at Ikea and other furniture stores to figure out the best ways of expanding. I'm still headed to Art Van tonight. We will see what this brings! I have also been looking at hardware options for the tables movable parts. Looking online at them is SO confusing because you can't see what each part does differently. I need to find a showroom where there are hinge examples.
I have attached some photos of the "small apartment" model with the table inside. Pretend that this is a studio apartment (with a bathroom somewhere), and the "book case" holds a murphy bed. The kitchen is quite generous in this space.
A couple more things: I put into perspective the amount of living space it takes up, I think this is crucial for the reasoning why it breaks down.
Nice google sketching!
ReplyDeleteI'm just curious as to what sparked this idea of a table that hangs on the wall. If it hangs on the wall, should it be an art piece in itself? Are you planning on adding a decorative value to it while it hangs on the wall?
I'm not sure if that made any sense, but you're definitely making progress
